Cherokee Charter Academy Seeks New Principal

Dr. Scott O'Prey will resign from his post effective June 30, Charter Schools USA said.

CANTON, GA -- Cherokee Charter Academy is in the market for a new principal to lead its school on Sixes Road near Canton.

Dr. Scott O'Prey has submitted his resignation and plans to relocate to Florida, the school informed parents in a letter dated June 1. The resignation will become effective June 30.

"While we will miss Dr. O’Prey, we wish him the best of luck in his new endeavor," the school added.

Charter Schools USA, the parent company of Cherokee Charter Academy, is conducting a nationwide search for Dr. O'Prey's replacement.

Once he or she is hired, the school notes it will schedule a meet and greet before the beginning of the year so parents and stakeholders can meet the new principal.

Dr. O'Prey, a Towne Lake resident, was hired in 2013 after the school's first principal, Vanessa Suarez, resigned from the post. He has more than 30 years of experience in the education field, serving in roles as principal and director at various institutions in Georgia and Texas.
