Cherokee Firefighters Train In Vehicle Extrication

Firefighters were also shown alternative techniques that may be useful when operating on an unusual extrication scene.

From Cherokee FD: Firefighters with Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services have been training in heavy extrication this week at the county’s fire training center. Firefighters were taught different techniques for dealing with vehicles in unusual positions as well as an introduction into large/heavy vehicle extrication.

Firefighters were also shown alternative techniques that may be useful when operating on an unusual extrication scene. Different scenarios were set up so firefighters could get hands on experience. John Weaver of Mauldin’s Body Shop in Canton was the lead instructor of the class which was held on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Weaver was inducted into the International Towing & Recovery Hall of Fame in 2016. Weaver has over fifty years of experience in towing & recovery and currently is a Lead Instructor for WreckMaster, Incorporated which is a towing and recovery training and certification company. Weaver’s daughter, Angela Reece, and son-in-law, Brian, also took part in instructing the firefighters. Firefighters received some exceptional training this week and we offer our thanks to John Weaver and his crew for instructing this class.
