Cherokee HS Overcrowding: Public Input Session On Nov. 16

The Cherokee County School Board will accept comments from the public at its input session, which will begin at 6 p.m.

CANTON, GA -- Next week, the Cherokee County School Board will hold a public input session to allow the community to provide feedback on possible solutions to relieve overcrowding at Cherokee High School.

The input session will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 in the board's auditorium at 1205 Bluffs Parkway in Canton. Board members will hear from as many as 15 speakers, who each will be give a maximum of 3 minutes. Auditorium doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with a sign-up sheet for the speaker slots in the lobby.

Anyone groups working together to advocate for a specific solution is highly encouraged to designate a spokesperson to speak on behalf of that group. The entire group is welcome to stand behind the designated spokesperson at the podium. Speakers are also asked to bring a copy of their marks to give to district staff so those statements can be copied and shared with the school board to review.

The Nov. 16 public input session comes on the heels of two rounds of public input meetings held last month by school district staff with parents, employees and community stakeholders. The initial presentation of those meetings can be viewed here. Proposed plans were reviewed with parents at those meetings, the details of which are posted online.

The school board's policy for public participation in meetings is posted here; we would ask anyone planning to attend and participate in this input session to review these guidelines, as they also apply to any signage citizens bring. Additionally, signs that block others from viewing the meeting will not be permitted.
