Cherokee, Pickens Firefighters Unite To Fight Apartment Fire

Cherokee County 911 dispatched several units a fire to the Mountainside Manor Apartments, 264 Bill Hasty Blvd., in Jasper.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a mutual aid call Wednesday afternoon, just shortly before 3 p.m., regarding a fire in Pickens County.

Cherokee County 911 dispatched several units a fire to the Mountainside Manor Apartments located at 264 Bill Hasty Blvd., behind the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.

According to Cherokee County Fire Captain, Ross Carmichael, “Numerous units from Cherokee County, including a ladder truck and units from Station 2 in Ball Ground and Station 21 off Airport Road, responded to the call.”

Cherokee County firefighters worked with firefighters in Pickens County to extinguish the fire that was inside the 1300 building. When the call first came out, they were indications that people may have been entrapped inside the building. Fortunately, residents in the building were able to get out without any major injuries. Firefighters were also searching for pets that were unaccounted for yesterday, too.

Some apartments received smoke, fire and water damage, while others had just water damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and numerous units from the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol were on scene to handle traffic control.
