Cherokee Schools Announces Support Staff Award
Payroll Clerk Tammie Collis won the honor and will be celebrated at a March 5 event.
From CCSD: Payroll Clerk Tammie Collis has been selected as the Cherokee County School District’s Division of Financial Management Support Staff Employee of the Year. Schools and central office divisions throughout the Cherokee County School District are honoring their own support staff winner who will be nominated for the CCSD Support Staff Employee of the Year. School and Division honorees will be celebrated at an event on March 5, at which the CCSD overall winners in three categories will be named.
The department taste-tested the made-from-scratch recipe at Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy with great success.
Cherokee HS A Cherokee County School District teacher is a finalist for a national education award! Cherokee High School English, speech and forensics teacher Jamie Wills is a finalist for the National Speech and Debate Association’s National Educator of the Year Award. More than 5,000 member teachers and coaches were eligible for the award, and five have been named finalists for the honor that recognizes an educator who has “enhanced the quality of education in the field of speech and debate” through his or her work in the classroom. Nominations may be made by teachers, administrators, school board members and parents. The national winner will be named on March 1, which is National Speech and Debate Education Day.

“We’re so proud of this recognition and of the award-winning program Ms. Wills has built at Cherokee High,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “The skills students learn through speech and debate classes and team competitions will positively benefit them for their entire lives, and this honor recognizes Ms. Wills for providing her students that education with excellence.” NOTE: Headshot photo attached Cherokee High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC instructors and cadets earned an overall unit assessment score of “Exceeds Standards” - the highest rating attainable -- during their annual evaluation. Instructors Lt. Col. Eddy L. Stanfill and Staff Master Sgt. Jeffrey T. Bise were praised for creating a dynamic and supportive learning environment coupled with excellent community outreach and outstanding leadership in administering the cadet-centered citizenship program. The cadets performed exceptionally well and took great pride in leading and accomplishing their unit goals.
“The Air Force ROTC citizenship program is making a positive impact on the cadets, the school and the community,” Principal Todd Miller said. Indian Knoll ES Indian Knoll Elementary School recognized special education teacher Micha Guice as its Employee of the Month for January. In addition to her teaching role, Mrs. Guice coordinates science garden lessons, takes an active role in facility grounds beautification and stocks the school’s “farmers market” with produce from the school garden. “Her students learn through engaging and meaningful experiences,” Principal Kim Cerasoli said. “We are thrilled to celebrate her positive impact on student achievement.” She was awarded a $20 Woodstock Downtown gift certificate from TPG Keller Williams, a school partner, as well as a gift from the PTA.
