Officers with the Canton Police Department were dispatched around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 to the Canterbury Ridge Apartments at 101 Canterbury Ridge Parkway to perform a welfare check on a child.

The request came from the Division of Family and Children Services, which alleged the nine-year-old girl was “left alone while her parents were in a court proceeding,” Canton police said.

Officers went to the apartment, and entered the unit with a key given to them by management.

After searching the unit, officers found the child in closet/laundry room, which allegedly had a walker placed against the door to prevent ”the child from getting out,” Canton police added.

The child was transported to Northside Hospital-Cherokee for evaluation and taken into protective custody. Canton police added a 17-year-old sibling who was not home at the time of the discovery was also taken into protective custody.

The child’s mother, Amy Lynn Davis, 35, and her boyfriend, Charles Adam Ellison, 34, were charged with one count each of false imprisonment and cruelty to children in the first degree. They both remain at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond.
