Cobb Rejects Hobgood's Request

Find out what's coming up on Canton-Sixes Patch today and what you might have missed overnight.

1. Today, Canton Mayor Gene Hobgood should get a rejection letter from Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon explaining that the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority has no intention of removing a "first right of refusal" clause from the Hickory Log Creek Reservoir ownership agreement with Canton. The letter was mailed on Wednesday, authority general manager Glenn Page said.

Hobgood, in a March 20 letter to Bacon, the authority's board chairman, requested an amendment to the agreement "to free the City to seek other potential buyers for a portion of our capacity." Saddled with debt—much of it from the reservoir, which has taken years to build and run millions over budget—the Canton City Council has discussed selling the city's 25 percent stake in the reservoir since last year. The authority owns the other 75 percent.
