County Awards Contract To Build Veterans Monument
The monument will be installed at the Cherokee Veterans Park on Highway 20 east of Canton.

CANTON, GA — Cherokee County commissioners at their June 19 meeting voted to award a design/build contract to a company to install a monument at Cherokee Veterans Park. WE Contracting was selected to do the work for $409,933, making it lowest-priced and highest-scoring bidder that put in a request to be considered, the county said.
The monument will pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of military veterans at the park on Highway 20/Cumming Highway in the Macedonia community. A steering committee of local veterans worked with county staff and a landscape architect to develop a conceptual plan for the monument which was then approved by the Board of Commissioners.
The monument will be located near the roundabout and playground area as visitors first enter the park. A large United States flag is the centerpiece of the design. The pentagon-shaped plaza includes a five-pointed star with a column at the point and the seal for each branch of the armed services on the column. The points of the star are each made up of brick pavers that can be purchased to thank veterans and commemorate their service.
