Deer Accused Of Playing 'Ding-Dong Ditch' At Cherokee Deputy's Home

Authorities asked residents to "be on the lookout" for the four-legged suspect in Cherokee County.

CANTON — Residents in Cherokee County were warned of an unusual "ding-dong ditch" suspect recently seen at a deputy's Canton home.

A deer was spotted on Nov. 5 seemingly ringing the doorbell of a Cherokee County sheriff's deputy before running away from the scene of the crime.

Authorities asked residents to "be on the lookout" for the four-legged suspect.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office shared 21-second video from the deputy's Ring camera of the incident.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, mating season happens in the fall from October through early December.

"Male deer go into rut and begin actively searching for mates. This greatly contributes to the increased movement of deer, bringing them across roadways," the DNR said.

The state agency warns if there is one deer sighting, there are usually more nearby as they typically travel in groups.
