Deputies Arrest 2 Following Sex Offender Registry Check

One resident is accused of failing to register his vehicle while another allegedly had child pornography in his possession.

Two Canton residents have been charged following an operation to confirm the registration of several sex offenders living at an extended stay motel.

Christopher Sloan, 43, and Tristen Cruz, 40, were both arrested Monday evening following the operation, which was performed by investigators with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office and probation officers with the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Sloan was charged with violating the state’s sex offender registry for allegedly “failing to register his vehicle with the sheriff’s office and concealing the fact that he had a vehicle,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker.

Cruz was charged with charged with sexual exploitation of children after detectives allegedly located child pornography in his possession, Baker stated.

The investigators and officers went to Homestead Inn at 1616 Ball Ground Highway to confirm whether six registered sex offenders residing at the location were in compliance with the Georgia Sex Offender Registry.

Sloan on Tuesday, March 31 was released from the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on $11,200 bond while Cruz remains at the jail without bond.

“The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is committed to strict monitoring of all sex offenders residing in Cherokee County,” said sheriff’s office Chief Deputy Joe Perkins.
