Downtown Canton Eatery Among 10 Best Sandwich Shops in Georgia

A longtime restaurant in downtown Canton has been named to a list of the best sandwich shops in Georgia.

R&M Sandwich Shop placed eighth in Only In Your State’s compilation of the 10 best places in Georgia that “make the best sandwiches EVER!”

The complete list includes:

1. Star Provisions, 1198 Howell Mill Rd NW Suite 100, Atlanta
2. Zunzi’s, 108 E. York Street, Savannah
3. Rising Roll (which has locations throughout Georgia)
4. Wildflour, 5815 Windward Parkway Suite 210, Alpharetta
5. Jack’s New Yorker Deli, 4691 Atlanta Road, Smyrna
6. Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, 1611 Satellite Boulevard, Duluth
7. R & M Sandwich Shop- 117 W Main Street, Canton
8. Baldinos Giant Jersey Subs, 5697 Buford Highway, Doraville
9. Victory Sandwich Bar, 340 Church Street, Decatur
10. Huy’s Sandwich, 6100 Live Oak Parkway, Norcross

“What an honor to be chosen as one of the top 10 sandwich shops in Georgia,” R&M said on its Facebook page. “We couldn’t do it without our awesome staff, our loyal customers and our long time food vendors who bring us the best of everything. Mom and dad would be proud.”

Helen and the late Lou DeLuca opened the restaurant in March 1972 and their famous hoagies have helped feed Canton residents for more than 40 years.

The DeLuca family in 2012 indicated they were thinking of selling their space, but decided to keep the venture up and running.

In 2014, restaurant owners embarked on a renovation project to update the eatery, which blended old school style with modern technology.
