Downtown Canton In Top 25 Of Main Street America Contest

CANTON, GA — For a second year in a row, Canton’s Main Street is in the top 25 downtown communities for the national Main Street America Contest by Independent We Stand.

“Being named to the top 25 Main Streets once again is a testament to how well Canton residents, small business owners, and our local leaders have teamed up to make their shared vision a reality for Canton," said Councilor Brooke Schmidt, chair of the Economic Development Committee. "As we together grow Main Street through economic development initiatives, engaging events, public art, and other programming, we can celebrate how residents and visitors want to come here, linger longer, and support a vibrant downtown Canton."

The annual contest includes daily voting for downtown communities. In 2019, Canton finished fifth nationally. Online voting continues through May 24 when the Top 10 National Communities will be announced. Not only will the winning community receive national bragging rights, but also a $25,000 cash prize to put toward downtown projects and initiatives. Other prizes include gifts and products from other event sponsors.

Users can vote online up to 25 times per device on phone, tablet, computer.

Customers can buy an online gift card to a downtown business and receive a matching bonus from the support of Canton Main Street and the Canton Downtown Development Authority. Each business has been allotted a number of these special buys to assure that the many wonderful merchants of downtown Canton are all part of this special promotion.

When you select a $10 gift card for online purchase to that business, you’ll receive a $10 boost, so your investment gives you more bang for your buck ($20) at that business and the business gets a little extra lift in its register. There is a limited supply and number of transactions per business are limited.
