Driver Charged With Homicide, DUI In Fatal Crash

Alan McIntire was driving a Chevrolet Nova when it left the road and collided with a tree. His 73-year-old passenger died in the crash.

CANTON, GA — The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has charged the driver in connection with a single vehicle crash that killed a 73-year-old resident in January.

Allen McIntire was arrested Friday, March 16 and charged with vehicular homicide in the first degree, vehicular homicide in the second degree, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, speeding and weaving over the roadway.

Barry McMahon of White died Jan. 10 in an accident along White Road near Sutallee Ridge Trail, which is located off Highway 20 near the Bartow County Border. A Chevrolet Nova driven by McIntire was traveling westbound on White Road when it left the roadway and hit a tree, Sgt. Kelley previously told Path.

McIntire, also of White, was ejected from the vehicle while McMahon received extensive injuries. Both men were transported to the hospital where McMahon later succumbed to his injuries (For more news like this, find your local Patch here. Sheriff's office spokesperson Sgt. Marianne Kelley said McIntire was booked into and later released from the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on a $14,712 bond.
