Firefighters arrived on the scene to find smoke coming from the one story structure, the agency said in a press release. The fire was coming from around the chimney area and had gone into the attic. Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it did any major damage to the home.

A man who was residing at the house was treated for smoke inhalation on the scene. He “refused” to be transported to an area hospital for further evaluation, said Cherokee fire spokesperson Tim Cavender.
