The Alexander family donated the expansive collection, consisting of nearly 80,000 images, to the Historical Society in 2004.

The current exhibit highlights some of Alexander’s favorite subjects, including schools, churches, businesses and aerial views of the county.

“The Cherokee County Historical Society is fortunate to have such an extensive visual record of county history in the Buddy Alexander collection,“ said curator Betsy Trope. “With this exhibit, we have the opportunity to share previously unseen images with the community.”

Executive Director Stefanie Joyner added the organization reexamined the collection and chose images that were not published in the book, ”Picture Perfect.”

“This exhibit presents striking images capturing Cherokee County before the arrival of I-575 and the rapid development that came after,” she added.

The exhibit is open through June 25.

The Cherokee County History Museum, located at 100 North Street Suite 140 in downtown Canton, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
