Family Dog Killed In Canton Blaze

A second dog survived the fire that caused a resident to go to the hospital, Cherokee County fire officials said.

CANTON, GA — A fire at a Lewis Road home on Tuesday morning killed a family dog and injured a resident near Canton, Cherokee County fire officials said.

Flames erupted early morning and consumed the home, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services said. Crews immediately began attacking the fire.

Fire officials said of the three people assessed at the scene, one of them had to be taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. The extent of the injuries were not revealed.

The family's dog died in the fire, while a second dog survived, fire officials said.

The cause and origin of the blaze were unknown early afternoon. Fire officials said this was the second fire they responded to in 12 hours.

“Working smoke alarms save lives,” Cherokee County Fire Chief Eddie Robinson said in a news release. “Take a moment today to test your smoke alarms, and make sure everyone in your household knows what to do if a fire occurs.”
