Fire Damages Home On Cherokee Overlook Drive

Cherokee County firefighters were able to get the fire under control 30 minutes after arriving to the home on Cherokee Overlook Drive.

CANTON, GA — A family is safe after their basement caught on fire last week.

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire Friday at 11:15 a.m. at 3736 Cherokee Overlook Drive in Canton.

Cherokee County 911 received a phone call from one of the residents saying that smoke and flames were coming from the basement. Cherokee County firefighters arrived minutes later and saw that one of the rooms in the basement was on fire with smoke. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control 30 minutes later. There was significant fire, smoke and water damage in the basement and smoke and water damage to other sections of the two-story home.

The occupants of the house included an adult male and female and their three teenage children. Everyone was able to escape from the house without injury. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.

Both lanes of Cherokee Overlook Drive were blocked until the fire operation was complete.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
