BALL GROUND, GA -- A storage building belonging to a resident was destroyed Wednesday evening in a fire in northeast Cherokee County. Firefighters with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to the call shortly after 6 p.m. Sept. 6 in the 3200 block of Yellow Creek Road, which is north of its intersection with Old Federal Road.

Firefighters arrived to find the building engulfed in heavy flames and smoke. The structure, according to Cherokee County fire investigator Cheri Collett, was owned by a 70-year-old resident and was about 600 square feet in size.

“The property owner said she noticed smoke coming from behind the building," Collett added. "She went outside to locate the source of the smoke and found the back of the building on fire."
