Fire Displaces Family of Three in East Cherokee

The fire broke out Sunday evening on Dimsdale Lane, which sits off Holbrook Campground Road in southeast Cherokee County.

Officials with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services are investigating a fire that uprooted a small family Sunday evening.

The agency, along with the Milton Fire Department, responded to the blaze just before 9:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at 6 Dimsdale Lane, which sits off Holbrook Campground Road in southeast Cherokee County.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and found “heavy flames and smoke coming from the roof of the one-story structure,” said Cherokee fire spokesperson Tim Cavender.

The occupants of the house, a man, woman and their two-year-old daughter, were able to escape from the house.

The parents asked paramedics and EMTs to examine their child since her room was full of smoke. Cavender said the home received “extensive damage and lost 75 percent of its roof.”

“A neighbor stated that the family had relatives (nearby) and thought they would be staying with them,” he said, adding the neighbor indicated the family had been living on the property for a “short period of time.”

Dimsdale Lane was blocked until the clean-up operation was complete.
