The fire was reported Monday evening on Little Refuge Road in Waleska.

WALESKA, GA -- A fire heavily damaged a home in northwest Cherokee County early Monday evening.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded just after 6 p.m. March 6 to a call of a fire at a home in the 5100 block of Little Refuge Road.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the one-story, wooden structure, said Cherokee fire spokesman Tim Cavender.

The occupants of the home, a woman and her adult daughter, were not home when the fire broke out. Neighbors who saw the fire called 911, and firefighters were able to get a "good knock down on the fire" within 15 minutes after arriving on the scene, Cavender added.

The home suffered "severe" fire, smoke and water damage to the inside and outside, Cavender stated. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
