Cherokee County’s Hickory Flat Elementary School has been named a 2015-2017 National PTA School of Excellence.

The National PTA has recognized the school for “its significant progress to welcome and empower families to support student success and school improvements during the course of the 2014-15 school year,” the Cherokee County School District said
The past school year’s accomplishments that led to this recognition included, but are not limited to: launching the school-wide and community-wide #BeKind initiative; achieving 100 percent PTA membership; establishing a new PTA Welcoming Committee; and hosting community events including a new Veterans Day Appreciation Ceremony and a Back to School Picnic.

“To say that I am excited about this award is an understatement,” Principal Whitney Nolan said. “What an honor to be 1 of the 124 schools chosen nationwide.”
A celebration will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the school to recognize the school and the community for this achievement.
