Holly Springs Donates $7,400 To Tippens Education Center
The city donated race proceeds from its annual Memorial Day 5K and Fun Run.
HOLLY SPRINGS, GA — Holly Springs Mayor Steven Miller presented Kelly Strickland, principal of L.R. Tippens Education Center, with a donation to help the school complete projects necessary for the well-being of its students.
The funds, which add up to $7,435, are race proceeds from the city's annual Memorial Day 5K and Fun Run. The city's event was held Saturday, May 26, and had more than 120 participants. Miller said it was the city's "pleasure to present this check to you and the students of L.R. Tippens."
Strickland said she was excited to "get to work with the net proceeds" from the 5K.

“I can’t tell you how blessed I feel to be able to open up school in the fall knowing that we can greatly improve
our program,” she said.

Strickland said the school has been trying to raise money to create a walking path students can use to cope with emotional stress, but it has been coming up short in the project.
The donation from the city, she added, will help the Education Center reach its goal and to also add to its sensory room and Training Academy. The Academy features mock businesses where students can practice career skills and prepare for life after graduation.
"I feel honored to be a part of the Holly Springs community and to be partners in education with the city of Holly Springs," Strickland added.
The Tippens Education Center at 2450 Holly Springs Parkway serves students with various learning challenges. It's housed in the former location of ACE Academy, which is now located on the former Teasley Middle School campus on Knox Bridge Highway in Canton. As readers recall, the Cherokee County School District opened the new Teasley Middle School on Reservoir Drive at the beginning of the 2014-15 school year.
