Horse Shot, Killed In Cherokee County

The horse boarded at The Stables At Union Hill near Canton was found dead around 8 a.m. Friday.

CANTON, GA -- The Cherokee Marshal's Office is investigating a case of animal cruelty in which a horse was found shot to death Friday morning.

The agency said an 8-year-old Irish Sport Show Horse was found dead in the pasture at The Stables At Union Hill around 8 a.m. Sept. 22.

A preliminary investigation reveals the horse was shot in the head while it was boarded at the facility, Marshal's Office spokesperson Sgt. Matthew McMullen.

"As of right now we are treating this as an active criminal case until we get any other information stating otherwise," he added.

The owners are offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Marshal's Office at 678-493-6203.
