Job Readiness Event Planned For April 18

MUST Ministries will host the event at the Smyrna Community Center.

A free "Step Up Your Game" job readiness event will be held April 18, at the Smyrna Community Center, 200 Village Green Circle in Smyrna.

Having the proper training is critical to finding a job. MUST Ministries has partnered with other local and state agencies to present the “Step Up Your Game” event.

This conference is designed around a football theme to explain how jobseekers can “get back in the game.” Because jobseekers today are experiencing longer periods of unemployment, these helpful and interesting workshops are designed to develop new skills and build confidence in presenting oneself in a capable, intentional way. Workshops include job coaching, mock interviews, effective work habits, and ways to overcome barriers.

“In earlier events, we saw 31 percent of attendees find work within six weeks,” noted Jeff Edwards, Director of Employment Services at MUST. “If you are ready to get back to work, this is the place to add the finishing touches and invest a little time in you.

“Also, 90 percent of participants give the conference high marks,” Edwards added. “They tell us how pleased they are to have attended, that they felt respected, learned things they can use right now, and are energized when they leave.

“On top of that, the relationship doesn’t have to end when the conference does,” Edwards concluded. “We encourage participants to follow up with Employment Specialists at MUST to continue the journey to landing that perfect job.”

To complement their newly obtained skills, participants will be given an opportunity to enhance their professional appearance by selecting a free interview outfit. “Sometimes having the appropriate interview attire can help potential candidates emotionally, and help them make their best first impression”, Edwards said.

Space is limited, so individuals interested in attending should register no later than April 10 by sending an e-mail to trainingisamust@gmail.com. Please include the event and date, your name, and your phone number.

Over the past four years, MUST has helped 2,135 people find employment, resulting in $32.9 million returned to the local economy.
