Jones Building Facade Removal Underway

It is estimated that the work will take the entire month of September to complete.

A familiar downtown Canton building will be getting a facelift throughout the month of September.

Vacant since being abandoned by the Cherokee County government in 2008, the former Jones Mercantile Building will have its exterior facade removed by by the county starting the first week of September.

The government sold the building to Westbridge Partners, a development firm, back in July. Westbridge told the Cherokee Tribune that they intend to remove the thirty-year-old stucco facade from the structure to reveal the original brick and mortar underneath.

As a result of this work, parking spaces next to the Jones Building on East Main Street and North Street and the small parking lot between the building and Cannon Park will be restricted for the duration of the removal process.

The county has told the City of Canton that it will endeavor to complete the project within 30 days.
