Kevin Higgins Named Athletic Director of the Year
Creekview High School's athletic director was given the title for Region 7AAAAA.

Creekview High School Athletic Director Kevin Higgins has been named the Region 7AAAAA Athletic Director of the Year.
Higgins, who is in his 24th year with the Cherokee County School District and his third as the athletic director and an assistant principal at Creekview, will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo at the board’s Feb. 5 meeting.

Higgins was nominated by Creekview Principal Dr. Adrian Thomason in recognition of the outstanding job that he has done in performing his duties and fulfilling his responsibilities since being named the school’s athletic director.
In the past three years, the school has won five region championships, with six individual region champions; and three teams reached the top four in the state, with 11 individual state placements including two state champions.

Higgins taught science for 21 years at Sequoyah and Creekview before taking his current role, and coached wrestling for 21 years between the schools, as well as football for seven years at Sequoyah and freshman volleyball for three years at Creekview. As a wrestling coach, Higgins’ teams won 255 dual meets, with 11 team county championships, 5 team region championships and two team state championships and 51 individual region champions and 16 individual champions.
He has earned praise from Dr. Thomason and district leaders for not only the success of teams under his leadership, but also the professionalism he shows to everyone involved in the athletic program including student athletes, parents, coaches and other staff and volunteers, booster groups and the community at large.
