Late Afternoon Fire Destroys Home On Edwards Mill Road

The fire was brought under control approximately an hour later, but the home was completely destroyed.

CANTON, GA — Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire Monday afternoon at 4:15 p.m. at 1428 Edwards Mill Road located off Highway 372 between Ball Ground and Free Home.

Cherokee County 911 received a call stating that they could see smoke and flames coming from the one-story structure. Squad 4 arrived on the scene first to report that there was heavy smoke. On scene command later said that the 1,500 square foot home was fully involved.

The homeowner, Dennis Kimbrell, 58, said he was at work when he received a phone call stating that his house was on fire. The American Red Cross was dispatched to the scene to assist Kimbrell.

The fire was brought under control an hour later, but the home was completely destroyed.

A portion of Edwards Mill Road was blocked until the fire operation was complete.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation
