Late Night Fire Kills Dog, Destroys Home, Cars In Hickory Flat
A family pet died in a fire just after midnight Tuesday in Hickory Flat. The house and both cars were also destroyed, officials said.
HICKORY FLAT, GA — Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire shortly after midnight on Tuesday at 1445 Bart Manous Rd i.n Hickory Flat.
Cherokee County 911 received a call from Sean Borden, a resident of the home, that his back porch was on fire.
Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes to find flames coming from the one-story structure.

“I was asleep and I woke up and I went out into the hallway and there was fire in the back room,” Borden said.
Borden and his fiancee were inside the house at the time and were able to get out safely with minor injured. Borden said there were two dogs inside the home. One of the dogs, a pit bull mix, died in the fire.

The structure, which sat on a basement, had severe fire, smoke and water damage. A white Toyota RAV 4 SUV and a black Toyota Tacoma Truck were also destroyed by the fire.
Borden and his fiancee had minor injuries and were treated for smoke inhalation.
Both lanes of Bart Manous Road were shut down until the fire operation was complete. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
