Lightning Strike Burns Down Barn In Waleska

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — A storm that moved through Cherokee County late Monday afternoon could be responsible for a fire at a barn located 7194 Reinhardt College Parkway in Waleska.

Cherokee County 911 received the call just shortly before 4 p.m. that a barn was on fire. The caller said no one was inside the barn at the time. The caller also reported that there was a tractor and lawnmower inside the structure.

Cherokee County firefighters arrived minutes later to find the barn fully involved. Firefighter were able to get the fire under control in less than 30 minutes. The barn and all the contents were completely destroyed.

Lightning had struck the building as the storm went through the area Monday. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
