Local Scouts are "Scouting for Food"

Area scouts are collecting nonperishable items during April and they need your help.

A Scout is Helpful. This is one of the seven Scout Laws and one that area Scouts take very seriously. As you are probably aware, the need for feeding the hungry in the Cherokee and Pickens county areas has grown in the past several years. These areas see more food pantries requesting donations to meet the needs of those they serve.

In an effort to support those in need, the scouting units in the Appalachian Trail District has designated April as its “Month of Service.” This effort includes local area Cub and Boy Scout units collecting food in their area and then donating it to local beneficiary, such as MUST Ministries, a shelter, or other food pantry.

How can the community get involved in doing “a good turn”? It’s easy. Simply donate any canned and/or nonperishable food item to a local scouting unit. If you do not know a scout in your area or a local Cub Scout Pack or Boy Scout Troop, visit the Appalachian Trail District website at www.atbsa.org. For specific questions or to schedule a drop of if a scouting unit is not in your area, please contact David Bailey at davidkbailey@comcast.net.
