Motorist Killed When Jeep Hits Deer, Rolls Down Embankment

The 56-year-old driver was partially ejected in the crash, which was reported overnight along Conns Creek Road in Cherokee County.

CANTON, GA -- The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is investigating a single vehicle crash that killed a Ball Ground man in the extreme northeast part of the county overnight Tuesday.

Deputies responded to the crash around 4 a.m. May 9 on Conns Creek Road near Moody Road near Ball Ground.

A preliminary report indicates a Jeep Wrangler driven by 56-year-old Danny Barnes struck a deer, which caused the vehicle to leave the road and go down an embankment, said sheriff's office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker.

Barnes, who was partially ejected from the Jeep, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Baker said there were no other passengers inside the Jeep at the time of the collision, and the agency's Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the incident.
