Motorcyclist Dies in Cherokee Accident
Joseph Dillon Howell, 23, was traveling on Highway 140 near Little Refuge Road when his motorcycle left the roadway and hit a tree.

A Waleska man died in a fatal accident Tuesday afternoon in northwest Cherokee County.
Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident on S.R. 140 near Little Refuge Road north of Waleska around 2 p.m. Nov. 11.
A motorcycle operated by Joseph Dillon Howell, 23, was traveling on the highway when it left the road and hit a tree, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker sid.

Howell was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Witnesses stated that Howell was traveling at a high rate of speed after passing several cars and swerved to miss a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction before leaving the roadway,” Baker added.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the accident.
