Here are the top five stories today in Canton-Sixes:
- Cherokee County has a new Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Medic Team. To form the new team, Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services joined forces with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. The SWAT Medic Team is currently composed of five (5) firefighter/paramedics who are also members of the Cherokee County Multi-Agency SWAT Team. According to Cherokee County SWAT Medic Team Leader Chief Scott Gwinn and SWAT Medic, Sgt. Joseph El-Bisi, the team goes through extensive training in tactical medicine and has several medic certifications. (Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services via Facebook)
- Cherokee County is looking for wheelchair donations. Cherokee County Senior Services needs — and is accepting donations of — gently used transfer chairs, wheelchairs, and rollators. Residents can drop off their donations at the senior center in Canton (1001 Univeter Rd.) between 8 AM and 4 PM. (Cherokee County, Georgia via Facebook)
- A father of Cherokee County students has developed a bulletproof bookshelf to protect kids in the classroom. Pete Facchini, the CEO of Protected Solutions, a former Army Ranger, and a father of three, helped create a bookshelf that can keep active shooters out of the classroom and protect children inside. Built with Kevlar and easy enough for children and a teacher to move, the bookshelves are already being used in schools in New Jersey. Facchini hopes to place them in districts in Georgia and across the nation. (11 Alive)
- There will be a new Flex Storage facility in Canton, Georgia. Announced on Tuesday, DYO Investments, MacArthur Holdings, and Live Oak Capital Partners have completed a 90,000 square-foot self-storage facility on Cumming Highway in Cherokee County, close to the Northside Hospital Cherokee campus. As of this week, the self-storage facility is open to the public and accepting new leases. (EIN News)

- Sat. June 4 was the opening weekend for the Farmers Market in the City of Canton GA. Make sure to attend on Saturdays from 9 AM -12:30 PM through the month of October and you might pass Endeara of Frik & Frak Artisanal Sauces, giving a taste test of one of their many sauces!
