Both Gerdes and Johnston are graduates of the Cherokee County Regional Police Academy. They successfully completed 408 hours of police training at the academy.

The new recruits will spend the next several months in the department’s Field Training Officer program, which provides a foundation for learning that prepares new officers for the complexities of policing today and in the future.
