New Principal Tapped To Lead Cherokee High School
Sequoyah High's Assistant Principal Todd Miller will replace Debra Murdock, who will serve as the district's Director of School Operations.

A slate of retirements in the Cherokee County School District has resulted a reshuffling of school administrators.
The Cherokee County School Board on Thursday recognized the retiring administrators, and also commended the new faces tapped to fill those posts.

- Director of School Operations Ron Dunnavant is retiring, and Cherokee High School Principal Debra Murdock has been appointed to the post; Sequoyah High School Assistant Principal Todd Miller was appointed as Cherokee’s new principal;
- Woodstock High School Principal Dr. Paul Weir has been appointed to fill the Director of School Improvement post vacated earlier this year with the promotion of Susan McCarthy to assistant superintendent.
- Woodstock Middle School Principal Mark Smith has been appointed as Woodstock High School’s principal, with E.T. Booth Middle School Assistant Principal David Childress appointed as Woodstock Middle Schools’ new principal;
- Supervisor of Special Education Dr. Susan Ritchie is retiring, and Tippens Education Center Administrator Sheryl Gould has been appointed to the post; Cherokee High School Assistant Principal Kelly Strickland was promoted to serve as Tippens’s new administrator;
- Mill Creek Middle School Principal Elaine Daniel is retiring, and Arnold Mill Elementary School Principal Dr. Kerry Martin has been appointed to the post, with Mill Creek Middle Assistant Principal Dan Fuller appointed as Arnold Mill’s new principal;
- Bascomb Elementary Principal Ruth Flowers is retiring, and Johnston Elementary Principal Kathleen Chandler has been appointed to the post; Teasley Middle School Assistant Principal Amy Graham appointed as Johnston’s new principal;
- Oak Grove Elementary School Fine Arts Academy Principal Les Conley is retiring, and Etowah High School’s Assistant Principal Penny Valle has been appointed to the post; and,
- Avery Elementary Pamela Smith has resigned for family reasons, and Holly Springs Elementary School Assistant Principal Lisa Turner has been appointed to the post.
The board also approved the sale of the original R.M. Moore Elementary School in Waleska.
The facility, which has been closed for several years, was sold to developer Stanley Townsend for $150,000.

The facility, which sits on Grady Street, was vacated in 1997 when the system opened a replacement facility on Fincher Road just outside Waleska’s city limits, according to the school’s website.
