Northside Cherokee Welcomes First Baby of 2016

Canton, GA -- Northside Hospital’s three campuses each celebrated the first baby born in the New Year.

Cherokee County’s first baby was Johana, who was born at 5:10 p.m. on New Year’s Day to her mother, Margarita Tomas, of Canton.

Johana was delivered at Northside Hospital-Cherokee, and weighed 7 pounds, 6.7 ounces and was 18 inches long.

Johana will join her big brothers Jonathon, 8, and Aron, 4.

At the Sandy Springs campus, Zavar Ali was the first baby born at 12:32 a.m. Jan. 1. He weighed 5 pounds, 14 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

The parents, Shabab and Syed Naqvi of Alpharetta, say they are thrilled with their bundle of joy.

“He’s very beautiful,” said Shabab, a first time mom.

Riya Khokhar was the first baby to be born at Northside Hospital-Forsyth. She arrived at 1:30 a.m., weighing 7 pounds and 15 ounces.

Her parents, mother Preeti Lall and father Puneet Khokhar, both of Cumming, said family traveled from England to meet Riya. This is the couple’s first child.
