9:22 p.m. In Cherokee, Newt Gingrich won the Republican presidential preference primary with 50.49 percent of the vote, according to the  office. About 27.63 percent of the county's registered voters cast a ballot.

  • Mitt Romney: 23.33 percent
  • Rick Santorum: 18.56 percent
  • Ron Paul: 7.09 percent

3 p.m. Cherokee County has had approximately 14,000 voters come out to the polls,  Supervisor Janet Munda said. There are 136,000 registered active and inactive voters in the county.

10:04 a.m. As of 10:04 a.m., 91 people had passed through to cast their ballot in today's presidential preference primary. That doesn't include . "It's going well," precinct manager Dee Thigpen said. "Better than expected. We have been quite steady this morning."

A little less than 4,000 registered voters are assigned to First Baptist Canton. "We're getting there," Thigpen said.
