Here are the top five stories in Canton-Sixes today:
- On Thursday, the City of Canton held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the Downtown Parking Deck at City Hall, exactly one year after the project first broke ground. The new deck features a total of 102 parking spaces split across two independent levels and doubles the amount of parking that was available on the former surface lot. The top level also includes an 80kw solar array, which powers 10 public electric car charging stations. (City of Canton)
- The Cherokee County Domestic Violence Task Force will host a candlelight vigil on Oct. 18 at 6:00 p.m. The vigil, set to take place in Historic Downtown Canton's Cannon Park, will honor the memories of three Cherokee County Citizens and countless others who have lost their lives to domestic violence. The vigil will also include a memorial reading of the names of the 161 domestic violence victims who died last year in Georgia. (CherokeeFamilyViolenceCenter via Instagram)
- On Dec. 10, the Service League of Cherokee County will host the 19th Annual Reindeer Run for the Children at Etowah River Park in Canton. Proceeds from the holiday-themed races, which include a 5k and 1-Mile Fun Run, will directly benefit programs for local children in need. A $1,000 cash prize will also be awarded to the school in Cherokee County with the most race participants. Registration is open online now. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News via Facebook)
