Officers with the Canton Police Department were dispatched to Anytime Fitness around 10:31 a.m. Aug. 21 at 3753 Marietta Highway in response to a call about a man allegedly “taking pictures or video of a female as she used the tanning bed,” the agency said in its press release.

As Canton offices responded to the location, the caller told Cherokee County E-911 dispatchers that the man, 25-year-old Giovanni Anibal Calleja of Woodstock, was trying to leave the scene in his car, but it would not start.

A sergeant with the agency arrived at the facility, and made contact with the alleged victim and the witness. Detectives were called to the scene, collected evidence and transported Calleja to Canton police headquarters for questioning.

Calleja has been charged with one count of felony unlawful eavesdropping/surveillance. He was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on Friday and posted a $11,200 bond the same day, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jay Baker said.

Canton police noted Calleja has allegedly committed several similar acts over the past year. The investigation remains active, and detectives are working to determine how many videos have been taken of other alleged victims.
