School District Participating In Summer Meals Program

CANTON, GA -- The Cherokee County School District will once again take part in an initiative to ensure its students won't go hungry during the summer months.

The district will participate in the USDA Seamless Summer Option, which offers free meals to children during the summer. The program will run Monday through Friday, June 5 to July 12 (exceptions noted below), and meals will be available to children and teens 18 years of age and younger.

All meals must be consumed on site. If the site serves breakfast, the child may also receive a free breakfast.

Nearly one-third of district students qualify for free or reduced-price meals during the school year, and "this program ensures that children continue to have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer break," the school district said.

The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture; no CCSD funds are expended for this program.
