The annual process begins with each school’s staff selecting its own Teacher of the Year. Applications from the school-level winners are evaluated by a panel of community leaders, who select the Cherokee County School District Teacher of the Year in the fall.

The winner will be surprised in his or her classroom by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo in November. The county winner is entered as the school district’s nominee for Georgia Teacher of the Year award, which is announced in the spring.

The district and school-level winners are honored at the annual CCSD Teacher of the Year Banquet in December, which is sponsored by Northside Hospital-Cherokee and Credit Union of Georgia.

Honorees enjoy an elegant dinner and tributes, are congratulated by the Superintendent and School Board and receive gifts provided by local businesses.
