Sequoyah High School JROTC Succeeds At The Citadel

Twenty-six cadets from the school completed the week-long training at the Charleston, S.C. institution this summer.

From Cherokee County School District: Sequoyah High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC cadets succeeded at The Citadel’s summer leadership program!

Twenty-six cadets from the school completed the week-long training at the Charleston, S.C. institution this summer as part of the largest AFJROTC Cadet Leadership Course in the United States with 350 participants.

Cadets completed a demanding physical fitness program and numerous confidence and leader development programs such as obstacle courses, leader challenges, drill competitions, inspections and marksmanship and orienteering training.

Sequoyah’s JROTC program, which this past school year was recognized as a Distinguished Unit for the 10th consecutive year and earned the prestigious national Silver Star Community Service with Excellence Award, earned numerous honors at the Cadet Leadership Course.

  • Outstanding Basic Cadet Alpha Squadron Trophy: Ethan Manigbas (only two of the 300 participating Basic Cadets earned this distinction)
  • Outstanding Support Staff Cadre Trophy: Olivia Rexford
  • Leadership School Ribbon: Connor Benton, Ethan Manigbas and Michael Skarbek
  • Academic Ribbon: Connor Benton, Mason Fischer, Xavier Jennings and Ethan Manigbas
  • Superior Performance Ribbon: Karla Campos, Ethan Eltz, Cheyenne Frye and Ethan Manigbas
  • Leadership and Co-curricular Ribbons: Sarah Coltrain, Zachary Feroah, Jared Johnson, Samuel Sanchez-Larios, Riley Newell, Gabriel Owenby, Olivia Rexford, Celeste Jordan-Thunderrock and Aaron Whittle
