Sheriff's Office To Host Seminars On Civilian Response To Active Shooter Incidents

The seminars will be held Sunday, Jan. 10 at Reinhardt University and Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Etowah High School.

Due to the overwhelming interest and request from the public, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a series of Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events seminars.

The first seminar will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10 at the Falany Performing Arts Center at Reinhardt University in Waleska.

A second seminar is scheduled in the southern part of Cherokee County from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 12th at the Etowah High School auditorium in Woodstock.

Those attending this course should gain insight on active shooter events and how to best prepare and react during such an event, the sheriff’s office said.

The seminar, which will be taught by Chief Deputy Joe Perkins, is open to everyone including children, but parental guidance is strongly recommended.

The Falany Performing Arts Center is located at 7300 Reinhardt Circle and seats roughtly 300 people. The Etowah High School auditorium is located at 6565 Putnam Ford Road and seats around 400 people.

Seminar participants will be seated on a first come first serve basis, so residents should plan accordingly.
