CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — The Cherokee County School District's Summer Meals program is in full swing, with seven school locations serving meals and six stops daily for the Cruising Cafe. The repurposed school bus for meal delivery in the community is a joint project between the CCSD School Nutrition department and the Transportation department.

CCSD is continuing its participation in the USDA Seamless Summer Option, which offers free meals to children during the summer – and rolling out a new delivery bus.

The meals are available to youth 18 years of age or younger; the program runs through July 19, Monday through Friday, with no meal service July 1-5. All meals must be consumed on site; the distribution sites and times are listed on the flier; a menu is online here.

Almost one-third of CCSD students qualify for free or reduced-price meals during the school year, and this program ensures they continue to have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer break. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture; no CCSD funds are used for this program.

CCSD works collaboratively with community partners like MUST Ministries to ensure as many children as possible are served free meals. In order to serve more students at more locations, CCSD has repurposed a decommissioned school bus to serve as a delivery bus.
