Here are the top five stories today in Canton-Sixes:
- The Georgia Supreme Court reinstated the ban on abortion after roughly six weeks of pregnancy, which was overturned last week. The state's emergency petition was a one-page order seeking a stay of the order of the Superior Court of Fulton County. (CNN)
- A man with outstanding warrants in Cherokee and Monroe counties was arrested concerning child abduction. Maurice Hall took a 10-month-old boy without the mother's permission and was planning to take him to southern Georgia. State patrol officers charged Hall with kidnapping, felony theft by taking, and robbery. The child was unharmed and returned to his mother. (FOX 5)
- A Cherokee County local starred in the lead role of a newly released horror-thriller film, "Most Horrible Things," on Amazon Prime Video. Grant Pfost has recently played in the murder-mystery feature, "Love Hurts" and Amazon's newest series, "Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire." (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
- Bryce Leatherwood of Cherokee County made it to the top 10 contestants moving to the next round on NBC's "The Voice." He has worked with Blake Shelton weekly and developed a close friendship with the singer. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
- According to the Canton District Attorney, a 23-year-old man pled guilty to rape and was out on bond when he strangled a man and sold another man drugs that killed him. He is sentenced to 25 years in prison with life on probation. Nicholas Brian Gosnell was caught when he sold fentanyl to undercover officers. Officers found text messages of Gosnell admitting to strangling a man and could also link a connection to another man's drug overdose. (WSB-TV)
