Canton Teen Dies In Cherokee County Crash

The 16-year-old passenger was killed when a truck driven by a 17-year-old left the roadway, went down an embankment and crashed into a tree.

BALL GROUND, GA -- A teenager was killed and another was injured Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash reported along Hightower Road in Cherokee County.

Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office responded to the collision around 1:52 p.m. June 19 on Hightower Road/S.R. 369 just east of Lower Creighton Road, which is located in east Cherokee County.

A preliminary investigation reveals a Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling westbound on Hightower Road when it left the roadway, rolled down an embankment and hit a tree. The driver of the truck, a 17-year-old male from Canton, was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

However, the 16-year-old juvenile passenger also from Canton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the victim and the driver are being withheld pending notification of their families.
