Truck Driven By Missing Canton Man Found in North Carolina

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office said Douglas Michael Shockley's truck was discovered near the Pisgah National Forest in Haywood County.

The truck driven by a Cherokee County resident reported missing on Monday has been discovered in a neighboring state.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday the white 2015 Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by Douglas Michael Shockley was found the Pisgah National Forest, which is in Haywood County.

That location is about three to four hours from Canton.

Sheriff’s office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said Shockley has still not been located, and Cherokee investigators have been in contact with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office, which is searching the area.

Shockley was last seen around 9 a.m. May 11 leaving the BridgeMill area wearing blue jeans and a blue-green shirt.

Regal Nissan in Roswell is also offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information “leading to Mike’s safe return,” according to its Facebook page. A Facebook page — Find Mike Shockley — has been created to keep the public informed about the search to find the missing resident. Organizers have conducted searches in the area and have planned to hold a vigil to draw attention to the case.
