Two Cherokee High Students Are National Achievement Scholarship Semifinalists

Four students in the Cherokee County School District were named semifinalists in the 51st annual National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Four Cherokee County School District seniors have been named National Achievement Scholarship Program semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Austin P. Floyd and Ebony N. Scott of Cherokee High School, Felicia N. Williams of River Ridge High School and Langston H. Leake of Sequoyah High School are among the 1,600 scholastically talented young men and women who now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 800 scholarships worth about $2.5 million that will be awarded next spring.

More than 160,000 African-American high school juniors competed to become semi-finalists when they took the 2013 PSAT; semi-finalists were selected from the highest-scoring students.

To advance to the Finalist level, the semi-finalists must: submit a detailed scholarship application detailing their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received; present a record of high academic performance throughout high school; be endorsed and recommended by a high school official; write an essay; and earn SAT scores that confirm their PSAT performance.
