What's Open, Closed For New Year's In Cherokee County?

Here's what you need to know as 2016 comes to a close.

CANTON, GA -- Just like the Christmas holidays, government business will come to a halt early next week in observance of New Year's Day.

Specifically, the cities of Canton, Holly Springs, Waleska, Ball Ground and Woodstock and Cherokee County offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, for the holiday.

Canton residents expecting trash services on the aforementioned days will have their residential waste collected one day late. Woodstock residents will see no change in its residential garbage collection.

The Cherokee County School District and Cherokee Charter Academy remain on their winter breaks and will do so through the first week of January. Classes will resume on Jan. 3 for both entities.

The Sequoyah Regional Library System will close its branches Sunday, Jan. 1, but will be open Monday, Jan. 2 for those needing to check out a book or use the computers.

Reinhardt University and Chattahoochee Technical College's Canton and Woodstock campuses will remain closed through the first week of January.

The United States Postal Service will observe New Year's on Monday, Jan. 2 and return to normal operations on Jan. 3.

The Cherokee Area Transportation System, or CATS, Canton fixed route service will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30 and will not operate Jan. 2. The buses will hit the streets again for normal hours Tuesday, Jan. 3.
