Woman Stole $5,200 From Drama Booster Club: Police

Michelle Renee Adas has been charged with felony theft by taking from stealing money from the Cherokee High School club.

CANTON, GA -- A Cherokee County woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the Cherokee High School Drama Booster Club.

The Canton Police Department was notified about the missing funds by the Cherokee County School District, which said it acted upon information provided by a teacher involved with the booster club.

After reviewing the club's records, the school district unearthed "several irregularities in the disbursements of its funds."

"Concerned that a parent volunteer appeared to be misappropriating club funds through theft by taking, CCSD shared its findings with the Canton Police Department, as the alleged crime occurred in its jurisdiction," the system added. "The school district greatly values the hard work of our dedicated students, parents and employees who fundraise to support extra-curricular activities and will take swift action if those funds are misappropriated or stolen."

Throughout the probe, detectives learned Canton resident Michelle Renee Adas allegedly withdrew money through debit and checking transactions between Oct. 14, 2015, and Feb. 28 of this year.

Adas is accused of illegally taking $5,260.08 "for her own personal gain," Canton police added.

Adas was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on one count of felony theft by taking on Monday, April 24. Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said Adas has since posted bond.
